Keynote speakers

Dr Helen Keleher

Helen KeleherHelen is Adjunct Professor in Health Science at the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Monash University. Until recently she was Director of Population Health at the Frankston–Mornington Peninsula Medicare Local. Helen has been a member of the Women and Gender Equity Knowledge Network for the World Health Organization’s Commission on the Social Determinants of Health (2005–08) and past President of the Public Health Association of Australia. She is co-editor of the two popular texts Understanding Health and Understanding the Australian Health Care System, published by Oxford University Press.

Helen’s work over many decades has been about understanding how best we can affect change in the determinants of health and health equity, especially through place-based, collective impact strategies. Her keynote presentation focused on the use of big data to improve health outcomes and health service delivery.

Prof Steven Allender

stevenallenderSteve is Professor of Public Health and Co-Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Obesity Prevention at Deakin University. He holds a jointly funded National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) / Australian Heart Foundation Career Development Fellowship and is co-lead for an NHMRC Australian Centre for Research Excellence in Obesity Policy Research and Food Systems. Steve’s keynote presented research at the cutting edge: how ‘big data’ is being harnessed to improve our understanding of complexities in lifestyle-related risks and outcomes for health and wellbeing.
